It comes with an 891 page PDF that makes my head swim. But I will eat the elephant.

Nikon Z50 II and two lenses coming Monday. I’m so glad I let myself spend the money and know I will enjoy it for some number of months or years.

prepare to immerse yourself in a long instruction manual. The camera may be small, but it has many options that can be set for photos.

what a find! The wetlands will be a good place to visit as the season changes bringing new birds into the area. You deserve an upgrade in your camera. And don't worry about your age with concern about how long you will have to use a new system. The remaining life expectancy for a 78 year old male is 9 - 10 years, enough time to use your camera before a new technology brings another upgrade in camera systems

Great trip. Albeit the weather was not in your favor. The snapshots show me a place that reminds me of my homeland, south Louisiana. Water and marshes abound. Your next trip will be another adventure. I look forward to the pics. I am impressed that the powers in place decided to find a way to reuse treated water from the city. Impressive. Be safe, Have fun, Laugh loud.

I also have an old Panasonic Lumix. Once Allen died my interest in photography diminished and I just use my iPhone now. But you need something far better than that Panasonic! Your photos are lovely as always.

Fred, if you really want the Nikon, go for it. It will give you so much pleasure. Hm, I seem to be talking to myself here, am going through the same thing.

Go for that Nikon. You will be happy to have it - and so will your family.

Food for thought…

As I went into retirement a friend introduced me to QDR which is “quality days remaining”. It changes how I evaluate spending during retirement, for example…

Expensive camera analysis:

1. Traditional cost analysis == price divided by days use -> I’m never running out of days or activities and this approach helps choose where to spend and not over spend as I save for later “retirement”

2. Golden year cost analysis == days use divided by quality days remaining -> highest percentage activity gets highest percent of retirement savings.

It at first felt morbid deciding upon my QDR, but it helps as I plan out my remaining time and what I think I’ll be capable of doing in my remaining time.

Bottom line: retirement is what I saved for. I should allocate my available/discretionary retirement funds percentage-wise on where I like to spend my quality days remaining percentage-wise.

I hope this helps you to get that awesome camera and editing tools (I hear windshield remover is an upcoming feature).
