I took this snapshot as we loaded groceries into the back of the Subaru. And there was that lonesome goose we’d seen the week before, and the one before that.
I kept coming back to the image, knowing I would never know either the backstory or the ultimate fate of this solitary creature never again part of the familiar world of water and wing.
I guess this is loading too much human reason and emotion into the life, suffering and death of a single anonymous creature. But maybe better too much fellow-feeling than too little.
The universe is composed of subjects to be communed with, Not a collection of objects to be used. Thomas Berry
Things may not be as bad as they appear. The goose could be protecting a nearby nest. Check out: https://gogeesego.com/geese-nesting-property/
