As a care giver to an elderly parent who has declining physical skills, I see her daily frustration with inability to accomplish simple everyday tasks. Cognitively, she recognizes the path of her aging body. I often wonder how absolutely frightening it must be as mental decline begins progressing…that period when the person is aware of the memory lapses…becomes cognizant of slipping in and out of that wicked veil that robs them of their being. I can not imagine of anything as cruel, except to be the loving partner who walks with them.

We lag behind in providing transitionary steps to care for our aging population. Availability and financial barriers leave so many to struggle without guidance or help.

Getting older is certainly challenging. Thoughts are with you, Fred. With you both. Steve.
