I didn’t understand that the wing folding was being done by the abdomen until I read the comments after the video. I watched it again and I was astonished as to how it manually folds its wings.
I believe I say the same insect in my shop on Monday. I was startled because it was big, and not much like anything that I had seen before. I will try and capture it if I see it again. I agree, the iNat identification does not seem correct
With the crashing population of insects, we need to pay more attention to these little creatures. My neighbors are spraying their yard for mosquitos which will certainly affect other insects. There has been a remarkable reduction in the number of birds in my yard, most likely due in part to a smaller number of insects.
Arachnid: observing and observed. It hung in space in the opening where the garage door had opened up. I stared at its redness and threatening legs & head, kept my distance. In a moment it had disappeared, how or where I didn't perceive. In another moment I saw it on the ground, and it was racing toward my shoe. It was trying to Get Me. In a second my panicked foot had had rouged a spot on the gravel.
