Rehoming Week Three

It is a mile around the central campus

Three weeks and still standing. Actually more often walking.

Pictured here is the wing (called MapleWood) that we live in, taken from the back side, which is where the new apartment will be. We will move on Oct 17. Among other improvements, it does not face the road noise that I have not been able to tune out at night. We will be in the upper apartment, just where the building seems to end, far left.

Yes, two moves in six weeks. What’s not to love!

Meanwhile, we do get out and away from campus, just Ann and I, or with our son who knows the area well from living here for a decade and now moved back to Columbia.

The image below is the view from the bottom, looking up at the bluff above Hinkson Creek. Our first visit to Capen park, we trudged to the top of this bluff, and ever since, I wanted this view. I also wanted to pick through the rock rubble along the stream’s edge to better learn the geology of the place. And there will likely be much more on that, later. [Hint: I just purchased a rock hammer!]

Boone County levied a tax a couple of decades ago, with the money going to conservation and park trails. It has paid off. The parking, signage and trails upkeep are impressive. The area below can be approached from east or west, and is way less than a ten minute drive from home.

And there ARE a lot of dogs on leashes, and we enjoy meeting every one of them.

The area pictured is great, but is so close to campus (north of Stadium Blvd) that it is not easy getting away from road noise. Can’t have everything!

Meanwhile, I encounter many wonderful UNKs (Unknowns) that I eventually suss out, like this odd oak with non-oak-looking leaves. Anybody recognize it? Answer: next time!
