The armadillows have arrived in Virginia. I hope that they will be welcoimed rather repatriated to Mexico like some other migrants of current concern.

from AI:

Ode to the Armadillos of Virginia

Oh armored travelers from lands so wide, Welcome to Virginia, where dreams abide. With shells of wisdom, steadfast and true, You bring the South’s whispers, a tale anew.

Through forests and meadows you’ve made your way, To dance with our seasons, both night and day. From fields to gardens, in moonlight's gleam, You etch new chapters in Nature’s dream.

In your quiet wanderings, a story unfolds, Of creatures adapting, of journeys bold. Our soil may be strange, yet still you roam, For every earth beneath the sky can be a home.

Let our hills cradle you, our rivers guide, In Virginia’s heart, let peace reside. For in your presence, we find surprise, A symbol of change beneath our skies.

So hail, armadillos! With open hearts we sing, You’re more than creatures—you’re wonders of spring.

I had the same experience after our move to Columbia last year. Our dear next-door neighbor, an avid gardener, is quite put out by their spread north to Tennessee and its changing climate. I also enjoyed photographing my fellow newcomers.

What a delight to learn of delight! Yes it continues to take no so much to amaze me. I so look forward to spring's release from house arrest--so much closeness with my cell mate whose tolerance for boredom is so much lower than I ever realized until we have no porches, no fields, no woods and no solitude. Thankfully, we never took it for granted. I just had not realized how easily I can amuse myself at the computer keyboard and how lacking Ann has been for indoor activities. So thanks for letting me know there are still ways to share what I might glean in the wee hours. Be well.
